Research Summary

Professor Figueroa joined the Department of Political Science as an assistant professor. His research examines historical state building, ideological change, and scientific innovation, with a regional focus on Western Europe and Latin America. His current book project investigates the disestablishment of patrimonial administrations and the rise of bureaucratic states in early modern Europe. Before joining MIT, he was an assistant professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Originally from Argentina, Figueroa holds a B.A. and an M.A. in political science from Universidad de San Andrés and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, respectively, and a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University.
