Molecular Frontiers Inquiry Prize (MFIP)

A good example of "Excellent resonance/awful followthrough" is the Molecular Frontiers Inquiry Prize (MFIP). Molecular Frontiers is a global effort to promote the understanding and appreciation of molecular science in society.

The scientific advisory board, a group of prominent scientists representing a wide range of molecular science disciplines, will assemble regularly to identify and analyze key scientific developments -- what has just appeared on the horizon, what we can expect to see next and what is missing -- and to guide the organization's scientific activities

The MFIP is slowly growing. The reason for that is MFIP can't scale up to meet all the demand for online interaction between scientists and children. It is all volunteers. There are hundreds of scientist mentors and moderators etc. willing to work for free with thousands of kids but logistics have been the main issue.
