Professor Helmreich's research interests include anthropology of science and technology, with an emphasis on biology; social studies of race, gender, kinship, sexuality, ability and science; ethnography of information science; maritime and oceanic anthropology; multispecies ethnography; social and cultural studies of sound and the senses.
