The MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) prepares MIT students to take leadership roles as global professionals by combining an MIT education with language and cultural training and "hands on" experience. MISTI's successful education model for emerging countries is the MIT-China Educational Technology Initiative (CETI). CETI is in its eighth year of building cross-cultural understanding between younger generations of Chinese and American students through the use of technology. A new, exciting development in CETI is the MISTI-OpenCourseWare Project: "Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination of MIT OpenCourseWare with Partners in China." The MISTI-OCW project will create a community of teachers and learners from both MIT and host institutions in China with the goal of implementing course material provided by OCW into the specific academic context of Chinese universities. We are also initiating plans to extend the CETI model to OpenCourseWare projects at universities in Africa.
