Research Summary

Peraire's research focuses on computational mechanics and numerical methods for partial differential equations, including mesh generation, finite element and finite volume methods, and adjoint techniques for design optimisation. His work has application in the areas of computational compressible fluid dynamics and other multidisciplinary problems in aeronautics. Several software products based on Peraire's research (in particular, the FELISA suite of codes) are used throughout the aerospace industry. Peraire is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NASA Exceptional Achievement Award and a prestigious prize from the International Association for Computational Mechanics. Regarded as an exceptional teacher, Peraire developed two very popular computational courses that serve a broad constituency across the Institute. He is the Director of the Aeronautics and Astronautics Fluid Dynamics Research Laboratory.
