Neural Mechanism for Memory Storage

Principal Investigator Steven Flavell

How does a simple nervous system consisting of only 302 neurons store information about past experiences? How is this stored information used to generate adaptive behaviors? We aim to pinpoint precise mechanisms of memory storage using the simple nervous system of C. elegans.

Techniques employed include:
(*) Behavioral analysis,
(*) Optogenetics,
(*) Mutant screens,
(*) Gene expression profiling.
