Project Website http://biotech.mit.edu/

Project Start Date April 2015

The MIT Biotechnology Group aims to increase the pace of biotechnological innovation by
building strong, symbiotic relationships between the MIT community and thought-leaders in
academia, industry, and business. We endeavor to serve the MIT community by facilitating
development of the knowledge, skills, networks, and experiences to prepare members for biotechnology-
related careers

Biotechnology Group is a non-profit student organization, founded in April 2015 by MIT graduate students
(*) Since the founding, we have grown to 800+ undergraduates, graduate students, and
postdocs at MIT and the broader Kendall Square community
(*) We structure our community along three core interest groups:
(*) Industrial biotech and pharmaceuticals
(*) Entrepreneurship and early stage startups
(*) Finance and investing

In 2016:
(*) We have grown to over 800 members
(*) We have hosted seminars, lunches, panel discussions, and site visits to engage our
membership with the Cambridge biotech community
(*) We developed a course, Research Experiences in Biopharma, which allows students to take
part-time internships at local biotech and pharmaceutical companies
(*) We launched Synapse, the MIT Biotech Report (synapse.mit.edu)
(*) We have communicated job postings and events to our membership with our biweekly digest

The MIT Biotechnology Group was founded to increase the pace of innovation by training student leaders in the biotechnology space. We are committed to building a community that strengthens the relationship between students and Boston’s biotechnology community.
