J-PAL Latin America and Caribbean (J-Pal LAC)

J-PAL LAC was established in October 2009 to expand J-PAL advocacy work in Latin America and include Latin American researchers in the J-PAL network. Based at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, J-PAL LAC works to improve the effectiveness of social programs world-wide, by supporting researchers working on randomized trials and disseminating their results in order to provide policymakers with reliable information that can make their policies more effective.

In 2010, J-PAL was asked by the Chilean Ministry of Planning to convene a commission of experts to help identify the major social policy challenges in Chile, and to propose innovative programs that could be evaluated using randomized impact evaluations. See the presentations and speeches here.

J-PAL LAC is a regional office of J-PAL, a focal point for development and poverty research based on randomized trials. For more information on J-PAL visit the J-PAL homepage: www.povertyactionlab.org.
