Run entirely by students, GlobeMED partners with grassroots health organizations to target pressing issues in public health and improve the lives of people living in poverty.

GlobeMed is a national organization which enables college students across 54 chapters to partner with grassroots health organizations in an effort to improve the lives of people living in poverty by promoting global health equity and social justice. Each chapter places a strong emphasis on a long term partnership, allowing us to gain a deep understanding of our fellow community’s needs and gives us the ability to devote our energies fully to our partner. To learn more about the GlobeMed network, visit the GlobeMed national website.

GlobeMed at MIT is made up of a group of students from all years and majors, including students from MIT, Wellesley and MCPHS. As college students, we have access to a vast network of resources and technology that we aim to thoroughly utilize as we target pressing issues in public health.''Data Management and Computer Literacy - This summer, we are focusing on expanding the clinic’s current data management skills by training staff skills in Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel. In order to improve the clinic’s monitoring and evaluation techniques, we plan on capacity building through expansion of data analysis skills. In order to ensure the clinic’s growth, we will develop a sustainable training program for future staff, which is crucial as Hope Through Health plans to have a major expansion program over the next ten years.

commcareMobile Health Communication – We are helping community health workers (CHWs) transition from paper records of home visits to CommCare, a mobile health platform. This will improve patient monitoring and evaluation, as well as allow for rapid communication with clinic-based staff. During summer 2015, we are training a permanent IT hire at the clinic in order to expand and ensure long-term success of the program.
