Lifestage, Lifestyle and Mobility in India

India’s fast growing population of older adults is expected to double in the next 15 years and continue to grow, passing China to become the county with the largest population of older adults in the world. In 50 years, the population of older adults in India will have surpassed the size of the entire population of the United States. The MIT AgeLab, in cooperation with the IIT Gandhinagar, has launched a pilot study in India examining mobility, consumption and well-being among older adults in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. A combination of GPS data with diary, interview and questionnaire data will illuminate the complexity of day-to-day life in Indian intergenerational households. Results from this study will help to identify and to plan for infrastructure and services from public and private providers to benefit a growing global population of older adults.
