Responsive Nanoparticle Sensors of Enzymatic Activity

Principal Investigator Sangeeta Bhatia

We engineer nanosystems that respond to protease activity as direct measurements of proteases in vivo and in vitro. Proteases are crucial to an incredible amount of physiological and pathological processes (such as fibrosis, cancer metastasis, thrombosis). We are currently working on some exciting developments to optimize these sensors by making them responsive to external triggers, designing better systems for use in vivo, and developing a pipeline for highly specific tumor gradation (distinguishing between benign cancers and aggressive, metastatic cancers).
