Cypress Hills Air Quality

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, the Cypress Hills P.S. 89 after school program, and innovators at Public Laboratory are teaming up to raise awareness of environmental risks associated with poor air quality in Cypress Hills, New York. Local youth will catalog environmental air pollutants by working with portable air quality measurement kits. MIT graduate students in Sarah Williams’ Crowdsourced City course will analyze and visualize neighborhood conditions to do a baseline analysis of the neighborhood, decide on air quality testing sites, make maps of the readings that the group collects, and produce an informative website around data collected over the year. Public Laboratory will teach educational workshops for the youth groups in monitor creation, data testing, collection and analysis.
