The group is investigating methods for purifying and desalinating drinking water for rural, inland villages. This project requires balancing design requirements between population size, contaminant types, salinity levels, and power systems. We are investigating both the technical/thermodynamic considerations behind water systems, as well as the socioeconomic factors that determine how they are used and maintained. Our aim is to create a small-scale, photovoltaic-powered purification system that can meet the daily drinking water requirements for a medium-scale village and can be incorporated into the product range of our partner, Jain Irrigation.
