This project aims to increase understanding of the direct and indirect impacts of transportation-related policies, including impacts on land use, fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions, changes in the energy sector, and other economy-wide effects. We are applying the MIT Integrated Global Systems Model (IGSM) framework that includes ways to examine different transportation-related policies by studying increased renewable fuel usage, improved fuel efficiency of cars and light trucks, regulatory policies in non-transport sectors, and carbon policies. From this study, the public will gain an improved understanding of how to develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the U.S. transportation sector. In particular, we will quantify the greenhouse gas implications of transportation-related policies, such as vehicle emission standards and increases in low carbon fuels.
