Engineered Small-Scale Machine Elements and Systems

Principal Investigator Martin Culpepper

The primary interests are in the (1) engineering of robust nano-scale machine elements - structures, bearings, actuators, sensors, (2) system design via combinations of machine elements that yield systems with unique capabilities, and (3) micro- and nano-scale precision instruments/equipment that are required to make, manipulate or measure the performance of the machine elements and systems. For example, sensors and actuators that possess nano-scale components (CNTs) which enable order of magnitude improvements in performance.
