Anthropomorphic Home Technology Interfaces and Older User Adoption

What if your most complex appliances and everyday things could talk – and teach? Instead of a thick instruction manual, your appliance may come with eyes to relate to you, hands to point to the right button and a voice to guide you through assembly and use. AgeLab is working Keio University, Japan to understand the potential application of anthropomorphic interfaces to engage and teach older users how to use everyday appliances and devices. From the DVD player, to the ‘smart’ toaster, this innovative approach to user interface may improve user experience and adoption.
