Pocket Projectors: All-in-one Solution for Mobility, Augmentation and Optical Communication

Traditionally, a projector is considered a display device that maps a 2D image onto a larger flat screen. In our research, we have questioned this restrictive consideration. By treating projector as the dual of a camera – that is, a 3D projective device that maps 2D pixels to 4D rays – we have shown that programmable illumination can be used in a versatile fashion for display, augmentation, communication and mobility.
