MIT Sloan’s Global Economics and Management Group is an explicitly interdisciplinary group that includes faculty with backgrounds in economics, political science, sociology, finance, and strategy. The group's research and teaching focuses on the global business environment through a range of disciplines—including macroeconomic, institutional, and strategic perspectives -- and the strategy and organization of firms operating internationally.
The goal of Global Economics and Management faculty research is to increase understanding of the international economy and influence global economic policy for the better. Areas of research include contagion, the global financial crisis, the fiscal cliff, international capital flows and tax holidays, the Euro-crisis, capital flows, capital controls, international tax policy, global strategic management, international business, Chinese economy and business, and the political economy.
Global Economics and Management faculty members are important voices in the ongoing conversations about the global financial crisis and other economic issues. Their work has been featured in publications such as The Atlantic, The New Republic, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times. Current faculty members have held prestigious positions with the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers, the U.S. Treasury Department, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
