Production and Quality Analysis of Used Vegetable Oil-based Biodiesel

Principal Investigator Jean-Francois Hamel

Biodiesel is a renewable alternative fuel that can be produced from a variety of feedstocks, ranging from virgin vegetable oil to algae. This work reports on the production and analysis of biodiesel made from used vegetable oil. The project has been conducted in conjunction with the student group Biodiesel@MIT, which aims to run MIT's campus shuttles on a blend of regular diesel and biodiesel made from used vegetable oil collected from various campus dining operations.
