Bioethics, Philosophy, and Policy

Principal Investigator George Daley

As a general point, biomedical research should always be conducted in a manner that is consistent with sound ethical principles. While by no means definitive, these links suggest starting points with which one might gather information about bioethics, ideas relating to the conduct of science, and the philosophical underpinnings thereof.

The Daley Laboratory also conducts its own bi-monthly bioethics roundtable. Biomedical research touches on many topics of great societal importance.

Just as scientists hope that policy decisions impacting research practice would be informed by science, we should also ensure that the ethical implications of such work be likewise informed by philosophical reasoning. In an effort to better inform our own understanding of the depths of this work, we have created a forum for the presentation and discussion of areas beyond the science itself.

The Bioethics Brown Bag Discussion is a bi-monthly, informal gathering that encourages open conversation and personal reflections relating but not limited to the ethics of stem cell research.
