The mission of the MIT Investment Management Company is to provide stewardship of MIT's financial resources. MITIMCo is a professionally staffed investment organization structured as a division of MIT. MITIMCo has a staff of approximately 50 employees and works with the assistance of investment advisory firms to help the university meet its investment goals. In addition to managing MIT's endowment, MITIMCo manages the employees' defined benefit retirement pool, the Retiree Welfare Benefit Plan, and advises the University on various other financial decisions.

The goal of the investment philosophy is to support current and future generations of MIT scholars with significant resources. To meet this goal, we have built our investment policy for the Endowment around several core principles.

MIT's commitment to innovation has led to a host of scientific breakthroughs and technological advances. On July 4, 2004, the MIT Office of the Treasurer duties were split into two separate functioning groups. The MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCo) was created and now oversees the Investment side of all MIT assets. The functions of the Recording Secretary's Office (gift processing, etc.) have now been absorbed by MIT's Resource Development Department.
