Kawamura Visiting Fellowship

Principal Investigator Kimberly L Benard

The Kawamura Visiting Fellowship program is a summer program for outstanding students from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The program invites up to four students (from approximately 100 applicants) with keen interests in Japan and diverse academic and extra-curricular backgrounds to visit Nagoya, Tokyo, and other parts of Japan for approximately 5 weeks. Students meet with numerous Japanese officials and executives. The program promotes better mutual understanding between the cultures by allowing the Fellows to experience as many aspects of Japanese society as possible, to share family life with Japanese hosts, and to present their analytical observations about Japan and the program. All costs related to the program, including round-trip airfare to Nagoya, plus a stipend for personal expenses will be paid by the program partners.

he Kawamura Fellowship began in 1988 with the goal of promoting cultural exchange and improving mutual understanding between the Japanese people and outstanding students from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each year, the Kawamura Fellowship invites up to four students, with keen interests in Japan and diverse academic and extra-curricular backgrounds, to visit Nagoya, Tokyo, and other parts of Japan for approximately five weeks during the summer. The Visiting Fellows will experience as many aspects of Japanese life as possible, and meet with renowned Japanese businessmen, politicians, artisans and educators, all while learning and experiencing Japanese society from a unique inside perspective.
