The Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) offers a semester-long "practicum," or hands-on learning experience for its MCP students in other parts of the world. Students enroll and get course credit. To date, the seminar has focused on five main locations: China, Mozambique, Brazil, Mexico, and India. Plans are in the works to add a second location in India (Bombay) next year. Because these courses occur in conjunction with full time student work, the research trips to these locations generally last 2-4 weeks maximum, and take place during IAP or the summer. No undergraduates are involved; contact persons depend on country (China, Dennis Frenchman; Brazil, Judith Tendler; Mozambique, Jennifer Davis; Mexico, Diane Davis; India, Balakrishan Rajopal).
Challenges are in both developed and developing countries.
