The MIT Auto-ID Labs initiative extends Auto-ID Center ideas which catalyzed RFID systems and germinated the concept of IoT in 1999. AIDL’s IoT Collaborative Research Initiative (ICRI) expects to engage with a broad “binary” vision. We may explore a range of research areas where invention and innovation may advance digital transformation through engineering design. Deploying IoT by design may enhance the industrial internet of things (IIoT). We invite ideas to stimulate research necessary for new tools and technologies. IoT use in diverse verticals must address fundamental questions about connectivity and how catalytic integration of IoT by design may drive social entrepreneurship. We expect a collaborative research effort to induce creative convergences while embracing innovation uncertainty.
