The MIT Sloan BioMedical Business Club (BBC) is a student-run organization that promotes leadership and involvement in the life science industries comprised of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare. It is a forum for ideas and actions linking students, scientists, and professionals from leading universities, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

The MIT Sloan BBC membership is comprised of over 150 graduate students representing a wide range of business degree programs (MBA, SM, PhD, LFM, MOT, and BEP). Membership is restricted to registered graduate students in MIT Sloan degree programs, their significant others, and employees of the MIT Sloan School of Management.

The club maintains a mailing list for alumni working in the biomedical industries as a means to keep alumni updated on club developments. Alumni are invited to self-subscribe to the mailing list.

Benefits of membership in the MIT Sloan BBC will brings:

(*) Email notification of club seminars and activities,
(*) Access to the club library,
(*) Career development guidance from senior club members,
(*) Invitation to industry and alumni networking events, and
(*) Invitation to January (IAP) business treks

The BBC exists in part to supplement CDO career services provided to MIT Sloan students interested in the life science industries.

Approximately 40% of MIT Sloan MBA students find summer internships through on-campus recruiting. About 31% find their positions through other CDO and club resources. 26% source their own summer opportunities through their personal and professional networks. The club community serves as one component to further develop these networks.

The club hosts many networking and educational events designed to introduce members to the life science industries and to introduce the industry to club members. The club library contains several resources to assist club members in their career development. In addition to on-campus recruiting through the CDO, businesses solicit the club with employment opportunities which we distribute to club members.

Opportunities to gain hands on experience in preparation for biomedical careers are available through the club and the MIT Alumni Association. The BioMedical Business Club coordinates project teams to work within industry. The MIT Alumni Association also offers opportunities for students to work in industry through externships during the January's IAP (Independent Activities Period).

The majority of the club's activities revolve around the biotech, biopharmaceutical, and pharmaceutical industries. A Special Interest Groups (SIGs) is best described as a club committee responsible for setting the club's agenda relevant to a minority group's interests.

The club SIGs grow and develop from year to year on the basis of the fluid interests of club members. SIGs are created and led by club members who are interested in educating their classmates about business fields previously under-represented in the club's activities.

There are currently three active SIGs and one in development:
* Medical Devices
* Entrepreneurship
* Healthcare
* Information Technology

Each SIG will have a kick-off meeting in September of the new academic year. If you are interested participating in one of these SIGs, please contact the pertinent SIG leader. Feel free to contact a club officer if you have a desire to see speakers in another field of interest.
