Integrated Circuit Design

Principal Investigator Jacob White

One critical problem in the design of high-performance digital and analog integrated circuits is the minimization of electromagnetic interference associated with the circuit interconnects. To simulate the impact of electromagnetic interference on circuit performance, we have developed fast algorithms for three-dimensional electromagnetic analysis and combined those algorithms with techniques for automatically extracting dynamically accurate simplified models. Our group developed two widely used programs: the electrostatic analysis program FASTCAP, typically used for examining capacitive coupling effects, and the magnetoquasistatic analysis program FASTHENRY, typically used for modeling inductive coupling.
