Haystack Telescopes and Facilities

The Haystack Observatory 37-meter telescope is a fully steerable, remotely accessible radio telescope operating at millimeter wavelengths for astronomical research and education. We offer time to faculty and their undergraduate students for spectral-line studies and continuum observations for individual projects, lab exercises or in-class demonstrations. The education program also provides students and faculty access to instructional materials and a Small Radio Telescope (SRT).

The Haystack 37-meter telescope is being upgraded by MIT Lincoln Laboratory to operate as a radar at 95 GHz. This will greatly enhance the capabilities of radio astronomy as well, opening the 85-115 GHz frequency range for our users. A PDF document detailing the coming upgrade can be accessed below. Operational capabilities are expected in 2008.
