Singapore-MIT Alliance Industry Consortium (SMAIC)

The Singapore-MIT Alliance Industry Consortium (SMAIC) was set up as an endeavour to forge closer ties between companies and the alliance universities. By raising the awareness and profile of SMA activities in research, education and training, the SMAIC aims to spur more activities in these areas, track technological trends and explore common industrial solutions and new directions with the industries in Singapore. Tapping on our elite pool of research expertise, the SMAIC offers an exclusive service that matches companies and research fellows specialising in similar research domains, initiating possible joint collaborations and facilitating interaction between the two.

SMAIC establishes an active link with the industry by:

(*) promoting SMA to the industry and raising awareness of SMA activities in graduate science & engineering education, research, innovation and applications of technology;

(*) enhancing the understanding of trends in the science and technology arenas;

(*) functioning as a forum to facilitate dialogues among focus groups to identify areas of common interest, synergy and future directions for research activities in Singapore;

(*) promoting research collaboration between members, encouraging industry participation in major research projects initiated by SMA and the alliance universities and enhancing the use of advanced distance technology for joint R&D projects and collaboration;

(*) encouraging members to support SMA activities through various schemes such as industry top-ups, sponsorship, scholarship, book prizes and internships.

Industries that participate in the SMAIC stand to reap member privileges including:
(*) priority registration for SMA activities
(*) invitations to the Annual SMA Symposium, Industry Partners Appreciation Night and networking sessions
(*) leveraging on a large pool of research expertise from MIT and Singapore
(*) access to a forum for the exchange of ideas which may lead to joint ventures and major industry-university-government research programmes
