Cultural Landscape and Regional Development (Spain)

Principal Investigator J Mark Schuster

Co-investigator Eran Ben-Joseph

Cultural Landscape and Regional Development has involved MIT and the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Spain in planning for the Llobregat River Corridor. This zone extends from Barcelona north to the Pyrenees and contains scores of abandoned textile colonias, once the industrial heart of the country. Involving communities and institutions along the river, the project used the historical and cultural fabric of the region to organize renewal efforts.
