Tailoring the Dielectric Properties of Materials with Nanocrystals

Principal Investigator Yoel Fink

Co-investigator Moungi Bawendi

Highly-controlled syntheses of nanocrystals can yield particles exhibiting interesting optical properties such as sizedependent photoluminescence, high refractive index, and low absorption.

In this project we will construct a continuous nanocrystal fabrication system to support this and other nanoparticle projects. In particular, we will use nanocrystals with highly controlled real and imaginary indices of refraction to design hybrid optical materials for use in optical integrated circuits. We will explore other potential applications for tailored-index nanoparticles, including cladding layers having engineered index profiles, index-matching and antireflection coatings, and resonant absorbing layers.
