MIT-Italy Program (MISTI)

Principal Investigator Carlo Ratti

Co-investigator Serenella Sferza

Italy and MIT share the same birth year (1871) and a passion for innovating through rigorous abstract inquiry and ingenious craft.

MIT’s motto “Mens et Manus” perfectly applies to the talent for integrative invention which has distinguished Italy since the Renaissance. Italy’s many excellent science labs and export-oriented companies offer many opportunities to MIT students and faculty.

More than 50 MIT students a year obtain research, work and teaching internships in Italy through our program. The MIT-Italy Seed Funds facilitate numerous research collaborations between MIT faculty and their counterparts at the Milano and Torino Politecnici, and the Universita di Pisa.

ITALY SEED FUND: The Italy Seed Fund supports travel costs for exchange between a team at MIT and colleagues in universities and research institutes in Italy.

MIT-UNIPI Project -- The MIT-UNIPI Project supports new collaborations between MIT faculty and research scientists and their counterparts at Universita di Pisa.

MITOR Project -- The MITOR Project supports new collaborations between MIT faculty and research scientists and their counterparts at Politecnico di Torino (POLITO).

Roberto Rocca Project -- The Roberto Rocca Project supports new collaborations between MIT faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at Politecnico di Milano.
