Optimization of Cooling Systems for Electronic Devices

Principal Investigator Borivoje Mikic

This project deals with application of methodology developed recently by our group to evaluation of cooling systems for electronic devices. The methodology is based on minimization of pumping power (or pressure drop) for a given cooling scheme at specified head load, inlet coolant temperature and maximum allowable surface temperature. The result of the procedure is the best choice of flow Reynolds number and hydraulic diameter for each system. The main effort in the scope of this project will be the development of a computational algorithm and the application of the algorithm for comparison of available augmentation scheme in terms of required heat load thermal constraint.
