Studies of early metallurgical technologies are in progress through the examination of metal artifacts and field excavation of metallurgical sites. In particular, detailed investigations of preColumbian artifacts have been undertaken in an effort to elucidate the development of metallurgy in pre-Columbian South and Central Americas.
