Methods are under development for assessing the quality, mass, cell number and viability of pancreatic islet (beta) cells that may be used for transplantation for treatment of diabetes. New assays are being developed along with modifications to currently-used assays for these purposes. These assays are intended to enhance assessment of islet cells during culture, shipment and prior to implantation.
